The show “Balkan Express”<\/strong> on TV Atlas addressed one of today\u2019s most sensitive issues \u2013 mass emigration from the north of Montenegro and the capacity of the state and local governments to face this challenge.<\/p>\n

A Dialogue on Key Regional Challenges<\/h4>\n

The studio hosted representatives from state institutions, local administrations, and the NGO sector: Miodrag Latkovi\u0107 from the Ministry of Economy, Jelena Kriv\u010devi\u0107 from the Regional Development Agency, Mirsad Azemovi\u0107, Vice President of the Municipality of Ro\u017eaje, and Dejan Medojevi\u0107, President of the Municipality of Mojkovac. Their views and experiences demonstrated the depth and complexity of the problem.<\/p>\n

Data from the NGO “Euromost” indicates that 4,600 people<\/strong> left the north between the beginning of the year and May, with many seeking asylum in EU countries. Despite significant government investment, issues persist: high unemployment, municipal debt, and a lack of investment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The regional development strategy has not yielded the expected results due to its short duration, while the legacy of uneven development has lasted four decades. The municipalities of Mojkovac and Ro\u017eaje face depopulation and low investor interest, despite favorable conditions in business zones. Medojevi\u0107 emphasized that infrastructure alone is insufficient without new jobs, while Azemovi\u0107 highlighted Ro\u017eaje’s efforts to attract foreign investors.<\/p>\n

The NGO sector warns of a lack of concrete action at the state level. A survey by “Euromost” confirms the pessimism: as many as 90% of citizens<\/strong> believe the north is neglected, while 73% of residents<\/strong> would leave the region if given the chance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Future Demands Systemic Solutions<\/h4>\n

The conclusion of the show was clear \u2013 halting emigration is only possible by creating new jobs and strengthening cooperation between local authorities and the Government of Montenegro. Without a long-term vision and serious investment, the north remains at risk of losing its most vital resource \u2013 its people.<\/p>\n
