Within the international project MED GIAHS<\/strong>, the second thematic workshop dedicated to strengthening the capacities of katun households was held on March 26, 2025<\/strong>. The focus was on valorizing the traditional pastoral way of life through sustainable tourism and the protection of Montenegro’s unique agricultural landscapes.<\/p>\n

Synergy of Tradition and Tourism Expertise<\/h4>\n

The workshop, held at the RDA BKP office, gathered 32 participants<\/strong>, including katun families from across Montenegro, experienced rural tourism hosts, guides, and representatives from the Administration for the Protection of Cultural Property. A highlight of the event was the peer-to-peer learning, where seasoned hosts provided practical support to katun families in designing authentic visitor experiences.<\/p>\n

Participants worked together to define the mission and vision of katuns<\/strong> for the Montenegrin GIAHS application. They identified core experiences that will shape future tourism offers, prioritizing identity preservation and the promotion of local gastronomy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

About the MED GIAHS Project<\/h4>\n

The MED GIAHS project is implemented with the support of the European Union<\/strong> through the Interreg Euro-MED program. As part of the “Sustainable Tourism” cluster, the initiative aims to protect and promote globally significant agricultural systems, ensuring that traditional practices remain a driver of sustainable rural development in the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n

\n

This workshop confirmed that the sustainable use of natural resources<\/strong>, combined with authentic lifestyle promotion, is key to placing Montenegro’s katuns on the global agritourism map.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
