FOREST WEALTH AND WOOD-BASED CULTURAL HERITAGE (TANGIBLE AND INTANGIBLE) IN THE DANUBE REGION\u2014SUSTAINABLE GREEN TOURISM AS PART OF THE EUROPEAN CULTURAL DANUBE ROUTE<\/b><\/p>\n

Why have we gathered to develop the Danube Woods Route?<\/b> The Danube region boasts one of the richest forest inventories in Europe, including vast areas of untouched forests. These forests are home to endangered species and provide valuable ecosystem services that have sustained local communities for centuries. The diversity of the region’s wooden cultural heritage is a key resource for the sustainable development of green tourism. However, despite its potential, wooden cultural heritage and traditions are underutilized in tourism, with issues such as the destruction of wooden artifacts, the replacement of traditional buildings, and the dying out of traditional crafts. There is a lack of green business initiatives and sustainable local value chains that could promote “wooden civilization” and enhance eco-tourism. Additionally, young people and potential investors do not recognize the values and opportunities in wood craftsmanship and green tourism. Forest biodiversity is also threatened due to the underutilization of traditional tree species.<\/p>\n

What are the main expected results of this 30-month international project?<\/b> The main goal is to ensure long-term sustainable use and valorization of the Danube region’s forest resources (natural) and wooden heritage (cultural). These resources will be used to develop innovative services and products for sustainable eco-tourism, creating a Danube Woods cultural route rooted in traditional knowledge. This initiative aims to stimulate rural development in the region. The project aims to develop a strategic framework, improve capacity building, and increase visibility to facilitate the establishment and promotion of the Danube Woods cultural route.<\/p>\n

Who are we?<\/b>
\nSeventeen partners from eleven countries will collaborate over 30 months to establish and implement the transnational Danube Woods network.
