UK Cooking Club Explores Montenegrin Mountain Cuisine and Falls in Love with Its Simplicity

A group of women from the UK, united by their passion for cooking, recently embarked on a flavorful journey through the culinary heritage of Montenegro. As members of a cooking club exploring global cultures, they chose to test recipes from Gorska trpeza / Mountain Bounty, a cookbook published by the RDA BKP.

Montenegrin Flavors in British Kitchens

The group prepared several traditional dishes, including Lećenik, Zeljanik, Lenten Sarma with walnuts, Ašure, and Flija. They described our mountain cuisine as simple yet rich and nourishing—a refreshing contrast to the ultra-processed foods prevalent in modern diets. Their feedback highlighted a deep connection to nature and authenticity.

“Trying these dishes was like taking a journey to Montenegro without leaving our kitchens. The flavors were unique, yet the preparation was straightforward and rewarding. It’s wonderful to know that these traditional meals are still being shared.”

Global Reach via Montegastro

The recipes were discovered through www.montegastro.me, our dedicated platform for traditional cuisine. This enthusiasm serves as a testament to the timeless appeal of home-cooked meals and the hard work of rural Montenegrin women who have preserved these recipes for generations.

Through initiatives like the Interreg Danube Culinary Trail, the agency continues to promote our heritage and integrate traditional dishes into wider European culinary routes.

A Taste of Montenegro for Everyone

RDA BKP remains committed to supporting local traditions and showcasing them to food lovers abroad. We thank our friends from the UK for embracing our culture and invite enthusiasts everywhere to experience the authentic flavors of our rural communities.
