Second Local Workshop within the MED GIAHS Project – Katuns as Potential GIAHS Sites

The Regional Development Agency for Bjelasica, Komovi and Prokletije is organizing the second local workshop within the international project MED GIAHS (Mediterranean Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems). The workshop will be held on March 26, 2025, in Berane, at the Agency’s premises.

The focus of the workshop will be:

  • Introduction to the GIAHS concept and criteria for inclusion on the FAO list,

  • Presentation of recommendations for the co-creation of tourism experiences in katuns,

  • Working on the vision and mission of katuns as GIAHS sites,

  • Examples of good practice in sustainable tourism from the region,

  • Discussion on the draft Strategy for sustainable rural tourism in katuns and joint recommendations for the Action Plan development.

Through this project, Montenegro aims to recognize and position its katuns as dynamic agricultural heritage systems, with strong potential for sustainable development and the promotion of cultural identity.
