Second Local Workshop within the MED GIAHS Project – Katuns as Potential GIAHS Sites

The Regional Development Agency for Bjelasica, Komovi and Prokletije is organizing the second local workshop within the MED GIAHS (Mediterranean Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems) project. The workshop will take place on March 26, 2025, in Berane, at the premises of the Agency.

The workshop will focus on:

  • Introducing the GIAHS concept and the FAO listing criteria,
  • Presenting recommendations for co-creating authentic tourism experiences in katun areas,
  • Collaborative work on defining the vision and mission of katuns as GIAHS sites,
  • Sharing best practices of sustainable tourism in traditional agricultural systems,
  • Discussing the draft Strategy for Sustainable Agritourism and joint recommendations for the Action Plan.

Through this initiative, Montenegro is aiming to recognize its katuns as dynamic agricultural heritage systems with strong potential for sustainable development and the preservation of cultural identity.
