InnoHPC – High Performance Computing 2017–2019

Project Title: InnoHPC – High Performance Computing for Effective Innovation in the Danube Region

Donor: EU – Danube Transnational Programme

Project Value: EUR 2,054,600.00

Donor Contribution: EUR 1,809,610.00

Implementation Period: 01 January 2017 – 01 June 2019

Project Description: The aim of the project is to expand knowledge among small and medium-sized enterprises regarding the opportunities offered by high performance computing (HPC), and to provide them access to these technologies. While HPC is widely available to businesses in developed European countries, in Montenegro and neighboring countries it still represents a distant and costly technology.

Specific Objectives:

  • Expand HPC as a general-purpose technology to improve innovation capacities of enterprises, especially SMEs, by increasing access to existing HPC infrastructure and providing integrated services, with a focus on the automotive and electronics sectors.
  • Bridge the gap between research institutes and enterprises by raising awareness of HPC’s potential in solving business problems and enhancing the relevance of scientific knowledge.
  • Develop tools to build capacities for improving knowledge and skills required to effectively use HPC in innovation processes. Efforts will focus on both HPC service providers and users.
  • Enhance entrepreneurial skills of HPC providers (universities and research institutes), strengthen their problem-solving capacities, and build SMEs’ ability to understand and explore HPC opportunities, particularly in the automotive and electronics sectors.
  • Increase transnational cooperation in the Danube region by connecting SMEs, HPC providers, regional development agencies, and public business support institutions through the InnoHPC Lab, enabling the formation of industrial value chains in the electronics and automotive industries.
  • Improve utilization of existing HPC infrastructure across the Danube region through a transnational approach, avoiding the need for additional costly hardware investments.
