Regional Development is a Synergy Between People and Nature

In her latest appearance, the Executive Director of RDA BKP, Jelena Krivčević, discussed key projects that are transforming the face of Northern Montenegro. The conversation focused on sustainable development, support for local communities, and projects directly impacting the quality of life in the Bjelasica, Komovi, and Prokletije regions.

Key Messages and Themes

Support for Local Producers: Jelena emphasized the importance of linking agriculture and tourism. Through the agency’s projects, households in the north are given the opportunity to market their products directly to tourists, thereby preserving tradition and preventing migration from the region.

“Our goal is not just statistics, but empowering every individual on the ground. When you see a family on a katun able to live off their own work, you know the project has succeeded.” – Jelena Krivčević

Valorization of Mountain Ranges: Focus was placed on the development of katuns (mountain huts) and hiking trails. The aim is not mass tourism, but tourism that respects nature and local culture—exactly what the modern traveler seeks.

International Cooperation and Funds: As an agency that has reached 26,000 direct beneficiaries, Jelena explained how EU funds are effectively channeled into concrete projects—from building restoration to youth education.

The Regional Development Agency continues to serve as a bridge between state institutions, municipalities, and small businesses, with a focus on the green economy and digital promotion of the region.

Vision for the Future

RDA BKP remains dedicated to ensuring that the resources of the north become its greatest development opportunity, fostering a sustainable future for the local community through innovation and strategic fieldwork.
