At the foot of Visitor Mountain in Brezojevice, Plav, lies the “Velemun” Botanical Garden. Established in 1993 through the dedicated work of botanist Milutin Praščević, the garden serves as a unique center for the protection and promotion of the Prokletije Mountains’ flora.
Biodiversity at 920 Meters Altitude
On a surface of 520 m², under typical continental climatic conditions, grow over 350 plant species. The garden was named after the striking trumpet gentian (Gentiana kochiana). Every plant here has its own story, from the rare Wulfenia blecicii to the Serbian spruce and Edelweiss.
Beyond presenting local flora, the garden plays a vital scientific and educational role. Through ex-situ protection programs for endangered species and cooperation with regional institutes, “Velemun” significantly contributes to the popularization of Montenegro’s botanical treasures.
What does the “Velemun” Botanical Garden offer?
Visitors can enjoy guided garden tours, excursions to the Prokletije Mountains, environmental education, and a dedicated camping site. Traditional local meals and products made from Plav area herbs and fruits provide an authentic experience.
