CrossReTour workshop on call for challenges

In June 2024, the RDA BKP organized a specialized event focused on katuns—the ancient tradition of transhumance and nomadic movement of livestock and people to high mountain pastures. While practiced to a lesser extent today, this tradition finds a promising future through its strong compatibility with sustainable mountain tourism.

Support for Green and Digital Transitions

As a member of the transitional consortium for the Cross-Re-Tour project, the Agency is providing tourism businesses with expert guidance and professional support for green and digital transformations. A special focus is placed on tourism katuns—agricultural holdings providing services in high-altitude, off-grid zones.

Tourism katuns are among the first to enroll in this program to work toward green transitions. Given their unique locations, these areas deserve dedicated preservation efforts through innovative and eco-friendly practices.

Preparation for the Upcoming Call

During the event, 17 applications were collected from interested households. This group will immediately begin innovation assessments and a mentoring program to upgrade their skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for the official Call for Applications scheduled for the end of this year.

By integrating traditional transhumance with modern sustainability, we are ensuring that katuns remain vital systems that contribute to the authentic and responsible development of Montenegro’s mountain regions.
