Organized by the National Tourism Organisation of Montenegro, the jubilee 10th annual “Wild Beauty Award 2014” ceremony was held on December 23rd at the Hotel “Lipka” in Kolašin. This prestigious event, which celebrates contributions to the quality, affirmation, and promotion of Montenegrin tourism, was held under the patronage of the President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanović, with the presence of the Minister of Sustainable Development and Tourism, Branimir Gvozdenović, and numerous dignitaries from the tourism and cultural sectors.
Recognition for the Regional Development Agency and Partners
The Regional Development Agency for Bjelasica, Komovi, and Prokletije (RDA BKP) earned the Wild Beauty Citation once again this year, this time for the documentary film “People of the Accursed Mountains” (Ljudi sa Prokletih planina), produced in collaboration with AMC Communications from Budva. The film focuses on the theme of protected zones and their direct impact on the economic development of local areas.
We are also particularly proud of the Wild Beauty Citation awarded to the Kljajić family, recognized for their exceptional success in launching rural tourism on their estate. From the very beginning, the Kljajić family has worked closely with our agency, receiving support through training, promotion, and the improvement of their household’s capacities, which ultimately resulted in this significant national recognition.
About the Film: Economy and Heritage Preservation
The documentary film we are presenting is not merely a visual journey through the rugged landscapes of the Prokletije National Park, but also a study of the unbreakable link between nature conservation and sustainable living. The core of the story highlights protected zones and the benefits they bring to the local population through the development of eco-tourism and the promotion of authentic products.
Through the film, we explore:
The Life of Highlanders: Authentic daily routines in the katuns and villages surrounding Plav and Gusinje.
Tradition and Crafts: From the crafting of folk costumes to the architecture of stone towers (kula).
Gastronomy: The preparation of traditional dishes that form the backbone of the rural tourism offer.
The Future of Tourism: Potentials for hiking and cycling on trails that connect the entire region.
This film serves as a testament to how the protection of natural resources can become a driver of the local economy while preserving the spirit and dignity of the people who have braved the peaks of Prokletije for centuries.
