Our Villages as Tourism Destinations: Meet the People and Landscapes Capturing the Hearts of Tourists in Our New Video

What is it that draws tourists from Germany, Israel, the USA, or France to our remote villages and mountain pastures (katuns)? The answer lies not only in the breathtaking landscapes but in the people, their hospitality, and flavors that are never forgotten.

In our latest video, which you can watch below, we take you on a journey through authentic households that, with the support of the project, have become true tourism gems. You will hear stories from those who are the heart of this offer:

  • Slavica Dubak from Šiška Katun, who welcomes guests with a smile and a homemade chard pie, while they enjoy horseback riding and learning how to milk cows.

  • The Kastratović Household on Polica, boasting a “million-dollar view” and stories about the nearby ancient craft center of Gradac, from where craftsmen once spread their knowledge across Europe.

  • The Pešić Family from Tomaševo, where the recipe for the famous “layered cheese” (lisnati sir) is passed down through generations, from grandmother to daughter-in-law, preserving the authenticity of the Vraneš Valley.

  • Slađan Ilić, who offers everything on his farm—from homemade honey and lamb to the opportunity for tourists to participate in agricultural work and experience village life firsthand.

The video also captures touching moments, such as the story of a young girl caring for her sheep, Rogić and Tačkica, reminding us of the unbreakable bond between humans and nature that forms the foundation of rural tourism. From Skadar Lake and the vineyards of Crmnica, through the Tara Canyon and the mountains around Mojkovac, to Hrid Lake and the Bajrović Katun above Plav—our villages tell a story of peace and healthy food.

Tourists like Anne from Germany, whom we met while she was enjoying raspberry picking, confirm what guests value most: nature, silence, and direct contact with the hosts.

We invite you to watch the video and feel a piece of the atmosphere that our hardworking hosts create every day on the path to turning our villages into leading tourism destinations.
