The Regional Development Agency (RDA), in cooperation with the National Tourism Organization, is actively working in the field within the project “Katun Roads of Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina”. Funded by the European Union through the cross-border program, the project focuses on creating a new, authentic tourism offer called Katun Road “Untold Bjelasica”.
Achievements to Date
Significant progress has already been made in equipping katuns with infrastructure:
- Solar Energy: 60 families in katuns received solar systems, greatly improving living and working conditions in the mountains.
- Signage and Rest Areas: Installation of signage for the thematic trail is underway, along with the development of campsites and rest areas for visitors.
- Host Preparation: The upcoming winter will be dedicated to working with katun residents, preparing them for their role as hosts in rural tourism, so they can welcome the first tourists next year.
Although rural tourism in katuns is still a novelty for many, these dedicated hosts are expected to become the backbone of a unique experience offered by our mountain “office” on Bjelasica.
