Study Visit to Slovenia – Digital Technologies and Good Practices in Agriculture

As part of the DINAMIC DANUBE project, representatives of the project team of the Regional Development Agency for Bjelasica, Komovi and Prokletije, together with local experts from Montenegro, participated in a study visit to Slovenia, held from August 25 to 27, 2026. The study visit was organized by the Municipality of Beltinci, a partner in the DINAMIC DANUBE project.

In addition to the project team, Amar Muratović, an agricultural producer from Petnjica, and Marko Novović, an agricultural producer from Berane, participated in the visit.

The inclusion of local producers in study visits is particularly important so that new knowledge, experiences, and practical solutions can be transferred directly among farmers and, wherever possible, applied in local conditions.

From an International Fair to Concrete Farm Examples

The first day of the study visit was dedicated to touring the 64th AGRA International Fair of Agriculture and Food in Gornja Radgona. The fair gathered producers, companies, institutions, and experts in agriculture and the food industry, presenting modern technologies, equipment, and new approaches to production. Central topics of this year’s fair included digitalization and artificial intelligence in agriculture, organic production, the future of rural areas, climate change and water resource management, as well as innovative solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises.

During the second day, participants in Beltinci learned about various examples of good practice from Slovenia. The program included presentations on the work of ZRIRAP – Institute for Alternative Practices, the company Žipo Lenart, organic fruit producer Jagodni kotiček, as well as examples from the field of beekeeping through B&I Beekeeping. A field visit to Eko vrt Beltinci was also organized, allowing participants to see practical solutions directly on the ground.

The final day was dedicated to the role of advisory and expert institutions and the application of innovations in agricultural production. Participants were presented with the work of the Institute of Agriculture and Forestry Murska Sobota, followed by a field visit to the strawberry production facility of the Panvita company. The study visit concluded with a joint review of the presented practices and possibilities for adapting them to different local environments.

Knowledge to be Transferred to the Local Level

For RDA BKP, the special importance of such study visits lies not only in getting acquainted with new technologies, but in transferring the acquired knowledge to local farmers and seeking solutions that are realistically applicable to small family farms in Montenegro.

The participation of agricultural producers from Petnjica and Berane allows the experiences from Slovenia to be viewed from a practical perspective – what presented approaches can help improve production, better utilize resources, introduce simple digital solutions, and develop more sustainable business models on local farms.

Through the DINAMIC DANUBE project, RDA BKP continues to strengthen cooperation between small family farms, experts, and institutions from the Danube region, with a special focus on knowledge exchange and the application of good practices that can contribute to the development of agriculture in Montenegro.
