About the Project

The project was aimed at the sustainable development of the Bjelasica, Komovi, and Prokletije region through a multi-sectoral approach. By focusing on tourism, environmental protection, and community empowerment, the initiative sought to valorize the region’s natural and cultural assets while improving the socio-economic conditions for the local population.


Project Results by Components

  • Mountain Tourism: Marking of the “Top Trail 3” cycling route, establishment of fly-fishing zones, and successful promotion of the region’s outdoor potential at major international tourism summits.
  • Cultural Tourism: Developed cultural heritage routes across six municipalities, adapted the Cultural Center in Kolašin, and modernized the Polim Museum in Berane with interactive touch displays.
  • Support to National Parks: Major infrastructure improvements including the construction of the NP Prokletije Visitor Center and the rehabilitation of facilities in NP Biogradska Gora.
  • Agro-Tourism: Created a rural tourism development strategy and provided direct financial and technical support to households for the reconstruction of accommodation facilities.
  • Community Development: Implemented diverse local priorities, including the rehabilitation of the dairy market in Bijelo Polje, reconstruction of rural bridges in Andrijevica, and support for organic producers in Konjuhe.
  • Regional Development: Facilitated the acquisition of €4 million in additional funding through project proposal training, empowered women entrepreneurs with start-up grants, and developed digital platforms for local tourism organizations.

Partnership

The project was implemented by the Regional Development Agency for Bjelasica, Komovi and Prokletije in close cooperation with local governments, national parks, and non-governmental organizations, creating a lasting model for regional cooperation and growth.
