Project Overview
The core objective of this project was to raise awareness within the local community—specifically targeting youth, farmers, and women—about the exceptional value of nature conservation. The initiative focused on the protection and economically sustainable use of natural resources, while launching a vital dialogue with the community regarding the establishment and management of Prokletije National Park.
Main Objectives:
- Educating the community on the modern concept of protected areas.
- Promoting sustainable models for utilizing natural resources for tourism purposes.
- Strengthening the participatory approach in the decision-making process for nature protection.
Key Results
1. Education and Conceptual Understanding
The local community in the Prokletije region gained a significantly deeper understanding of nature conservation. Through educational activities, residents were introduced to contemporary management models for protected areas that balance environmental needs with local economic development.
2. Capacity Building for Local Action Groups
Local Action Groups (LAGs) successfully enhanced their expertise in biodiversity and environmental preservation. This strengthening ensured a transparent and ongoing consultation process with the population, making certain that the community’s voice remains central to the development of Prokletije Park.
3. Informational Materials and Promotion
A comprehensive set of awareness-raising materials was developed and distributed. A key highlight was the production of promotional brochures in three languages, detailing the biodiversity and tourism potential of the Prokletije cross-border area to attract both domestic and international visitors.
