The Gallery of the Polimski Museum in Berane hosted the grand opening of an exhibition featuring photographs and children’s artwork dedicated to the preservation of traditional rural architecture and folk building heritage. This event, which brought together numerous partners and guests, was organized to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the cultural heritage embedded in the old houses and landscapes of our region.
The exhibition is a key activity of the project “Preservation of Cultural Landscapes of Montenegro and Albania,” funded by the European Union through the cross-border cooperation program and co-funded by the Ministry of Public Administration of Montenegro. The display includes photographs by Jovan Nikolić and Sandra Kapetanović, alongside artworks by students from the elementary schools “Vuk Karadžić” (Berane) and “Bajo Jojić” (Andrijevica). All young authors were rewarded with the book “The Girl Tara and the Magic Tree” by Žarko Vučić.
At the opening, the director of the Polimski Museum, Violeta Folić, highlighted the project’s achievements to date, including the revitalization of the villages Kurikuće and Kaludra, the restoration of three old mills, and the interior decoration of 10 rural households in cooperation with the Kreativa organization. Sandra Kapetanović from Expeditio Architects provided an expert overview of traditional building techniques, while the exhibition was officially opened by Jelena Kljajić, whose family in the village of Lubnice successfully utilizes a traditional log cabin for tourism. The festive atmosphere was further enriched by the “O’dive bel canto” klapa, who performed traditional songs.
