Andrijevica: The Gateway to Komovi and the Heart of Tradition

Welcome to Andrijevica, a small town on the Lim and Zlorečica rivers, surrounded by Komovi, Bjelasica and Prokletije. The cultural route takes you through churches, monuments, villages and mountain huts, revealing the rich history and traditions of the Vasojevići.

Knjaževac church and memorial park

The Church of St. Archangel Michael was built in 1877 with the support of Prince Nikola and became the spiritual center of the region. The Knjaževac memorial park is an open-air museum with monuments from all eras, including a black marble pyramid and Pančić’s spruce.

“Knjaževac is a place where history is learned outdoors – every era has its monument.”

Kralje village and mountain huts

The village of Kralje is known for its heroic past and the first school in the Vasojevići region. Mountain huts on Komovi and Bjelasica preserve the tradition of highland life – springs at 2000 masl and the Church of St. Elijah at Carine, standing at 1800 meters.

“One summer on Komovi means a longer life – the mountain gives strength and health.”

Namastir and tradition

The village of Košutići preserves remains of the oldest church in Polimlje from the 4th–6th century and the Vasojevići University founded in 1861. Andrijevica is also known for its gastronomy – the famous smočani kačamak, cheese and cream from mountain pastures.
