Welcome to Bijelo Polje, a town in the Lim valley, known for writers, festivals and cultural landmarks. The cultural route takes you through churches, mosques, museums, parks and villages that preserve rich traditions.
Churches and mosques
The Church of St. Peter, built in 1196 by Prince Miroslav, preserves the Miroslav Gospel – the oldest Cyrillic manuscript. The City Mosque, moved stone by stone, reflects the unity and faith of the locals.
“The Miroslav Gospel is inscribed on UNESCO’s Memory of the World list – a jewel of world culture.”
Museums and parks
The Regional Museum preserves the Brskovo coin and archaeological finds, while the Park of Poets honors Ratković, Sijarić and Bulatović. The House of Risto Ratković is a rare example of oriental architecture and a cultural hub.
“Bijelo Polje is a town on the literary map – home to Montenegro’s greatest writers.”
Surroundings and tradition
The old bridge in Voljavac, the village of Bistrica and the Podvrh Monastery reveal legends and sacred heritage. Mineral springs and Đalovića Cave preserve natural wonders. Bijelo Polje is also a town of festivals – jazz, tamburica, poetry and theater.
