Project Overview
The primary focus of this project is the transformation of the cross-border Prokletije area into a premier outdoor destination. By increasing the scope, quality, and visibility of the tourism offer, the initiative creates a unified space for active tourism that seamlessly connects Montenegro and Kosovo.
Main Objectives:
- Improving outdoor tourism infrastructure across the cross-border zone.
- Standardizing information for tourists and travel agencies.
- Boosting the global visibility of Prokletije as a top-tier adventure destination.
Key Results
1. Infrastructure Enhancement
A comprehensive network of over 300 km of hiking and cycling trails was developed, including two thematic trails linking both countries. The project equipped a rock-climbing site with 20 new routes and furnished the area with rest areas, viewpoints, bicycle parking, and essential signage for water sources.
2. Digitalization and Standardized Information
The outdoor offer has been modernized through GPS trek logs, electronic maps, and a dedicated web portal. A mobile application was developed for Android and iOS, complemented by 50 physical information boards on-site, facilitating easy navigation for both independent travelers and agencies.
3. Promotion and Visibility
The destination’s profile was raised through strategic billboard placement, high-quality promotional videos, and distributed print materials. Two outdoor festivals were organized, successfully positioning the Prokletije area as a vibrant hub for outdoor enthusiasts.
Partnership
The Regional Development Agency for Bjelasica, Komovi and Prokletije served as the Lead Applicant. Partners included the Tourism Organization of Plav (Montenegro), Regional Development Agency WEST, and the Municipality of Peja (Kosovo).
